Erin Mathews is an artist and curator based in Naarm/Melbourne, Australia.

She currently works in the professional gallery world, while making her own art and managing the Cabinet of Curiosities art project.

Hello and welcome!
It’s nice to meet you.

Erin is a gallery and museum professional with over 10 years of experience, based in Melbourne/Naarm. Her focus is on equality curating, and she works to celebrate the diversity of practitioners, artists and arts workers. As part of her curatorial work, Erin enjoys running tours, facilitating panels and making podcasts. She specialises in dynamic exhibition design and development, combined with detailed research and writing. Erin is driven to promote equality through curatorial practice and provide access to the arts for the whole community.

She is currently an Exhibition Project Manager at Museums Victoria, and has developed exhibitions such as 'Biik Milboo Dhumba | Country Is Always Talking' at Melbourne Museum.

Erin has completed a Master of Art Curatorship at The University of Melbourne. Her professional experience includes working in regional galleries such as Gippsland Art Gallery and Latrobe Regional Gallery in Victoria and working internationally with JGM Art Ltd in London. She has curated numerous exhibitions include 'Space: 50 Years Since Man First Stepped On The Moon', the biennial 'John Leslie Art Prize' 2018 and 2020, 'Lesley Duxbury, Echo: A Survey' and 'Heather Shimmen, The Ladies of the Pleiades'. In her previous role as Exhibitions Coordinator at National Exhibitions Touring Support (NETS) Victoria Erin managed the delivery of several touring exhibitions including 'Notions of Care', 'Conflated', and 'Collective Movements: First Nations Collectives, Collaborations and Creative Practices from across Victoria'. She is also a non-residential tutor for Colleges at The University of Melbourne.

Erin’s artistic practice is based in printmaking, with a focus on history (definitely inspired by her early love of the classic 1999 film The Mummy). She is usually found on the floor carving Lino plates and trying not to stab herself.

When she’s not working, you can probably find her drinking an iced coffee in one of the wonderful cafes around Melbourne, listening to a podcast, or making (and devouring) some sort of baked goods.

Erin produces work under the Cabinet of Curiosities name.
